Challenge

challengeAs part of the Crafts Bursary we are encouraged to take risks to push our practice.  On Thursday 17th Feb, myself Louise Kirby (surface pattern designer), Gilly Langton (jewellery) and Fiona Thompson (ceramicist) were briefed from Prof Georgina Follett and Dr Louise Valentine in the board room at DJCAD.  We had till 9pm to come up with a product in collaboration with each other using our specialist skills.  From this experience it taught us that we have strong creative skills as well as the other roles we work well in. Louise Kirby (designer, project manager and positive encourager), Gilly Langton (designer, summariser, marketing and pitcher), Fiona Thomson (artist and thinker).  I throughly enjoyed being part of a collaboration and work well with others in an enthusiastic, positive manner and see this as one of the ways forward for my business.

Tunnock Teacakes

teacake

I love this bag I got as a present from a friend who knows me well! I love tunnocks teacakes! I love the stripey wrapper – it’s a design classic! The designer/maker of the bag is a girl called Gillian Kyle based in Glasgow, she screen printed bags and aprons.  The one I got is foil printed.  Other in the range include other nostalgic scottish things – spam, scottish plain bread, scottie dogs and highland coos, sporrans .  Did you know tunnocks have a I dark chocolate version of the teacake, with a navy blue and gold wrapper.  My one was bought in the DCA shop in Dundee.  Check out her website www.gilliankyle.com

Dundee Contemporary Arts Shop

DCA

The DCA shop has some of my Spring Summer silk scarves in stock, pop along and see them for yourself!

The DCA is one of the best things in Dundee – gallery with current exhibitions, 2 cinemas, print studio so you can get creative, fab shop that you can buy quirky designed gifts to hand crafted products from national designer/makers, and I can forget the bar and outdoor space for summer time drinks and food.
